West-facing homes are considered good in most Vastu literature, and are often more affordable because of buyer preferences for east and north. The west is associated with Varuna.

Best main door position
On the west wall, counting from the south-west corner, the 4th and 5th padas (W4 Pushpadanta, W5 Varuna) are the classical favourites. Doors near the south-west corner (W1–W3) are the ones most commonly avoided.

How to confirm your home is west facing
Stand in your main doorway and face outward. If you are looking west, the home is west facing. Measure it with the compass in house-facing mode, or — more reliably in apartments — trace your building on the map direction finder. A building tilted more than about 20° is closer to a corner (vidisha) facing.
Recommended layout
In a west-facing plan the front faces west, so the north-east (pooja, open space) is at the rear-left. The kitchen goes south-east (rear-right) or north-west (front-left), the master bedroom south-west (front-right), and children’s rooms west or north-west.
Room placements in Vastu depend on the zone, not on the facing — a south-east kitchen is ideal whichever way the house faces. What the facing changes is where the entrance and circulation fall. To find where each of your rooms falls, use the floor plan analyzer or the Vastu Checker.
