Staircase Vastu
Staircases are heavy, tall elements, so Vastu places them in the south, west or south-west and keeps them out of the north-east and the centre. In most homes stairs can’t be moved, so the focus is on what surrounds them.

Best direction for the staircase
Staircases add weight and height, so Vastu places them in the south, west or south-west. The north-east and the centre are traditionally kept light and open.

- Stairs should ideally turn clockwise when going up.
- An odd number of steps is traditionally preferred.
- Do not use the space under the stairs for a prayer area or a toilet.

- Stairs should turn clockwise going up (north → east → south → west).
- An odd number of steps is traditionally preferred.
- Avoid a staircase in the centre of the home.
- Don’t place a pooja area, toilet or bedroom bed directly under the stairs.
- Keep the stairs well lit and in good repair.

Keep the space under it for light storage only, keep it clean and well lit, and keep the rest of the north-east of the home as open and light as possible.
