Pooja room Vastu
The north-east (Ishanya) is the classic place for prayer and meditation. In a small flat you don’t need a separate room — a clean shelf in the north-east of the living room follows the same principle.

Inside the room, whatever its zone
- Face east or north while praying.
- Do not place the prayer space under a staircase or sharing a wall with a toilet.
- Keep it clean, well lit and uncluttered.
Setting up the mandir
- Face east or north while praying; idols then face west or south.
- Keep idols slightly raised (not on the floor) and not touching the wall.
- Avoid placing the prayer space under a staircase, inside a bedroom facing the bed, or sharing a wall with a toilet.
- Keep it clean, well lit and free of storage clutter.
Prayer corner in a small flat
Find the north-east corner of your living room (use the compass from the room’s centre). A wall-mounted mandir there, with you facing east or north, is the most common practical solution when a separate room isn’t possible.
